14 Market Place, Newark
2-bed apartment
Client: Newark & Sherwood District Council
Approved contractor on a Framework
With dual frontage onto the Market Place and Queens Head Court, this characterful property plays an important role in the town’s architectural identity and presented a fantastic opportunity to bring it back to life.
The project involved the comprehensive refurbishment of the ground floor retail unit, extension into the existing basement to create storage space, and the renovation of the upper three floors into a high-quality 2-bedroom apartment. Our approach combined conservation sensitivity with modern construction standards, carefully preserving the building’s heritage features while significantly enhancing fire safety, thermal performance, acoustic standards, accessibility and long-term durability.
A full internal strip-out allowed us to upgrade the fabric of the building, treat and protect structural elements, and introduce improved insulation and waterproofing systems to future-proof the property. Externally, works were delivered in close coordination with conservation requirements, ensuring the building continues to contribute positively to Newark’s historic streetscape while meeting contemporary expectations.
The completed scheme now provides a revitalised commercial space at ground level and a thoughtfully renovated, energy-efficient home; supporting local regeneration while safeguarding an important historic asset.
We were proud to work in conjunction with Newark and Sherwood District Council to revitalise 14 Market Place, a prominent 19th-century building at the heart of Newark’s Conservation Area.
Delivering a project of this nature in a live town centre environment required careful logistics planning, controlled delivery windows and robust pedestrian safety management demonstrating our experience in managing complex refurbishment schemes within high-footfall urban locations.
