A New Chapter for the Community: The Shed, Collingham, Expands!
We recently celebrated the grand opening of the brand-new extension at The Shed @ Collingham, which is situated next door our head offices, Gusto House. This expansion was built by our dedicated team and opens a new range of opportunities for the people of Collingham.
A thriving community initiative, The Shed @ Collingham, has expanded with new activities and increased space, thanks to a £67,500 grant from Newark and Sherwood District Council via the Rural England Prosperity Fund.
Since beginning in our Commercial Director’s, Jerome's, backyard over a decade ago and registered as an official charity in 2020, The Shed @ Collingham has blossomed into a vital lifeline for residents, offering a welcoming space for woodworking, metalworking, jewellery making, pyrography, laser engraving, stained-glass projects and, most importantly, building genuine friendships. Now, thanks to the new extension, The Shed is ready to welcome even more members and expand its offerings.
Jerome said: “It has been absolute pleasure to watch this concept grow so much over the last decade. I am very proud of this extension that we have created and built together!”
The official opening event was a success and evident of the strong community bonds The Shed @ Collingham has created. Attendees from Gusto Group, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society, and many individuals from the local community gathered to celebrate. Those who joined us enjoyed some tea and coffee, and delightful cakes and sausage rolls.
It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to mingle, explore the new facilities, and learn more about the rich history of The Shed. From its early days as "Men in Sheds," a space designed to combat isolation, to its current inclusive form, boasting a membership that is now 30% women, The Shed has truly evolved.
Margaret, a 77-year-old member had the honour of opening the new extension. She expressively spoke about the importance of The Shed and showcased some of the incredible projects created within its walls.
The extension itself is a testament to Gusto Construction's commitment to quality and community support. The purpose-built space provides sufficient room for workshops and projects, ensuring The Shed can continue to thrive for years to come.
Miles Harriman, Chair for The Shed @ Collingham, emphasised the importance of The Shed to its members: “For some members it is a reason to get up in the morning”. Miles added “Thank you to Gusto construction for building the extension and Gusto Group for their continued support”.
This expansion it's a symbol of growth, inclusivity, and the enduring power of community spirit. Congratulations to The Shed @ Collingham, and Gusto Construction on this remarkable achievement!
